چکیده

Passivity of systems comprising a continuous time plant and discrete time controller is considered. This topic is motivated by stability considerations arising in the control of robots and force-reflecting human interfaces (‘‘haptic interfaces’’). Necessary conditions for passivity are found via a small gain condition, and sufficient conditions are found via an application of Parseval’s theorem and a sequence of frequency domain manipulations. An example—implementation of a ‘‘virtual wall’’ via a one degree-offreedom haptic interface—is given and discussed in some detail.  1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

A novel theory for sampled data system passivity

This paper presents a novel way to approach the interconnection of a continuous time and a discrete time physical system. This is done in a way which preserve passivity of the coupled system independently of the sampling time T . A direct application is in the field of haptic displays where virtual environment should feel like equivalent physical systems.

Network Traffic Reduction in Haptic Telepresence Systems by Deadband Control

Current haptic (force feedback) telepresence systems operated over a communication network as, e.g. the Internet, require high packet rates for the transmission of the command and sensor signals. We propose a novel approach to reduce the network traffic by means of deadband control. Data packets are only sent if the sampled signal changes more than a given threshold value. Passivity based estim...

Towards Deadband Control in Networked Teleoperation Systems

One of the key challenges in current bilateral teleoperation systems is the high data packet rate necessary for the transmission of the sampled command and sensor data. We present a novel, psychophysically motivated approach to reduce the packet rate based on a deadband transmission strategy. Data packets are only sent if the sampled signal changes more than a given threshold value. The thresho...

Passivity-Based Stability Analysis and Robust Practical Stabilization of Nonlinear Affine Systems with Non-vanishing Perturbations

This paper presents some analyses about the robust practical stability of a class of nonlinear affine systems in the presence of non-vanishing perturbations based on the passivity concept. The given analyses confirm the robust passivity property of the perturbed nonlinear systems in a certain region. Moreover, robust control laws are designed to guarantee the practical stability of the perturbe...

PASSIVITY ANALYSIS OF INTERACTIVE SYSTEMS UNDER SAMPLED - DATA CONTROL by RAVI HEBBAR

by RAVI HEBBAR For dynamically-interacting systems, such as a robot contacting an environment during an assembly operation or multiple robots collaborating in a manipulation task, issues of stability can be difficult to analyze. One very valuable tool is passivity analysis. If each dynamic subsystem (linear or nonlinear) satisfies the property of passivity with respect to its interaction port(s...
